The Movie BILLA
The 1980s Rajnikant-starrer 'Billa' was one of the biggest box office grossers of its time. With its solid plot, its twists and surprises, some good songs and humour in the lines, and above all a charismatic star like Rajnikant to enact the dual roles, it was an engrossing entertainer. Remaking it is a daunting task, the odds heavily stacked against the new team which has to fight comparisons.
Knowing his limitations in remaking the film and understanding that the Rajnikant-magic or the flavour of the earlier 'Billa' cannot be recreated; that the suspense and the surprise elements would hold no 'surprises'; director Vishnu Vardhan, while being faithful to the main storyline, has shifted focus from the performances and the detailing of the script and concentrated on the look and the presentation. Under Vishnu's expert hands, we get to see a trimmed down 'Billa', contemporary and sleek, and high on technical values. There may be a few narrative flaws, but they in no way mar the film's appeal.
The all-familiar story line is about 'Billa', a dreaded Don being killed by a cop, and his look alike Velu sent in his place to ferret out the gang's secrets. Apart from women who want to kill him, there is also a mole in the police camp. The new 'Billa' is set in Malaysia, the locations eye-catching.
There is not much of performances here to rave about. For, it's the looks of the actors that the director has exploited here, and Vishnu has a handsome cast to work on. The lead players are more like actors arranged in a tableau, with not much emoting to do.
Ajith has never looked so dashing. Nayanthara never so sensuous in all those slinky black outfits, including a two piece which shows to advantage her well-toned body. There's Namita looking gorgeous, the one among the three women who manages to put in some expressions as Billa's devoted girl friend. Fitting in admirably is Rose Dawn (a Mumbai model) and Adithya as the enterprising cop. Looking a bit out of place in this scenario is Prabhu as the cop who hunts down Billa.
At times you sense a stillness in the frames as Neerav's camera, static, captures and freezes the action as in a tableau, cutting a picturesque sight. Icy blue, white and black are the colours that set the tone for the film, the camera creating some stunning visuals. Some crisp editing (Sreekar Prasad) and well-choreographed stunts (William Ong) enhance the stylish look. The director has coordinated the work of his technical crew admirably.
'Billa' couldn't have been remade any better today than what Vishnu has done. It's worthy movie watch.

Benazir Bhutto killed
Hey guys, I was really shocked to hear about the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, slain in a suicide attack in Rawalpindi on Thursday, knew very well the risks she ran when she decided to wage a public campaign for the restoration of democracy. Hours after she returned home in October after eight years of self-imposed exile, a suicide bomber killed nearly 150 people in an attack targeting her motorcade in the streets of Karachi.
The attack followed threats by militants linked to al Qaeda, angered by Bhutto's support for Washington's war on terrorism. "They might try to assassinate me," Bhutto had told the pan-Arab Asharq al-Awsat newspaper in an interview before she set out to return to Pakistan. "I have prepared my family and my loved ones for any possibility."
Despite being in the wilderness for most of the past decade, the tall, stately Bhutto remained one of the most recognisable female politicians in the world. In 1986, a vast sea of supporters had welcomed her home as she came back to challenge a military dictator who had executed her father, deposed prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, seven years earlier. Bhutto became the first female prime minister in the Muslim world when she was elected in 1988 at the age of 35. She was deposed in 1990, re-elected in 1993, and ousted again in 1996 amid charges of corruption and mismanagement. She said the charges were politically motivated but in 1999 chose to stay in exile rather than face them. Really shocking

International Joint Ventures
- It is being a business organization established by two or more companies that combines their skills and assets.
- A JointVenture is formed by two businesses that conduct business in a third country. (US firm + British firm jointly operate in the Middle East)
- joint venture with a local firm
- joint venture includes local government.
- Bechtel Company, US
- Messerschmitt-Boelkow-Blom, Germany => Iran Oil Investment Company
- National Iranian Oil Company
- Large capital costs - costs are too large for a single company
- Protection - LDC governments close their borders to foreign companies
- bypass protectionism.
- e.g.: US workers assemble Japanese parts. The finished goods are sold to the US consumers.
- The new venture increases production, lowers price to consumers.
- The new business is able to enter the market that neither parent could have entered singly.
- Cost reductions (otherwise, no joint ventures will be formed) increased market power => not necessarily good.
Problems
Control is divided. The venture serves "two masters"Welfare Effects to the society

Dreams
Please watch your steps, I plead..
Coz you might trample upon..
My beautiful bed of roses n tulips.
Come hither and see the pine n cedar trees..
Spreading their loving shade over my little house..
With its roof n chimney swathed in the brightest of colours..
Overlooking the river that gurgles down the hill behind.
Have a glimpse of the sunflower..
Swaying pretty above my window sill..
Hark! Can u hear the sweet chirps..
Of the lil bird who visits me everyday.
As u step upon the porch..
Watch out for the slender arching vine..
With beautiful fragrant flowers that adore..
The doorway to my sweet abode.
Knock the door, ring the bell or yell for me..
You will find me there with a smile and a warm hug..
To take care of you my dear friends and..
To welcome you to my DREAMLAND.
This is where all my happiness stay..
Here is where I live life just my way..
This is where I wash all my pain n solitude away..
With my dear ones for whom I can die any day.
This is paradise, yes my paradise..
Overflowing with pureness in thought n spirit..
Where you find only love n affection..
With no place for hatred and enmity.
This is my DREAMLAND, yes my paradise..
Where SHE dwells with me, in spirit n form..
Where SHE is truly mine and only mine..
Where SHE is my love, my obsession.
Try to Dream soon.
